The University of West Alabama baseball team received its highest ranking of the season jumping five spots to 15th in the latest College Baseball Newspaper’s Top 30 Poll as announced by the publication Monday afternoon.
UWA, which went 4-0 this week and clinched the Gulf South Conference East Division title, is one of five teams from the conference ranked in the poll.
Ouachita Baptist remains the top ranked GSC school, moving up to No. 4. Behind UWA is Southern Arkansas up two spots to 16th. Montevallo leaps six spots to 18th, passing Delta State, who took a tumble down to 22nd.
Kutztown becomes the new top team in the nation, replacing Cal State Los Angeles, which dropped to No. 5. Sonoma State and Tampa share the No. 2 spot in the poll with OBU not far behind.
West Alabama returns to action on Saturday, May 5, as the Tigers open the GSC Baseball Tournament against the No. 4 seed from the West Division, Arkansas Tech. First pitch is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. at USA Baseball Stadium in Millington, Tenn. The game will be aired on WZNJ 106.5 and at athletics.uwa.edu.
