The East Central Community College baseball team picked the right time to get hot.
The Diamond Warriors, seeded number six, defeated home standing and second ranked Gulf Coast 5 to 3 to claim the state junior college baseball championship.
East Central went 4 and 0 in the tournament, with two wins over Gulf Coast and two over Meridian to claim the school's first state title since 1998.
The Warriors advance to the Region 23 Tournament which begins Monday, May 14 at MCC's Scaggs Field.
The winner of the six-team regional will advance to the Division II World Series.
