Zach Miller delivered a pair of decisive late-inning hits and Mississippi beat Sam Houston State 14-5 Friday in the opening round of the NCAA Oxford regional.
Miller snapped a 4-4 tie in the fifth inning after opening with a triple and scoring on a ground out by Justin Henry. An inning later, Miller gave the Rebels an insurmountable 8-4 lead with a bases-loaded single that brought in two runs. Will Kline (7-2) worked six innings to pick up the win for top-seeded Ole Miss (38-23). Justin Cryer closed out the Bearkats (38-23) with two innings of scoreless relief.
Ole Miss will play Southern Miss in Saturday's winners bracket game, while Sam Houston State will play Troy in the elimination game. Logan Power and Cody Overbeck hit home runs and the Rebels finished with 12 hits.
Keith Stein, Karl Krailo and Nick Baleski had two hits each for Sam Houston State.
