Previously hitless Bobby Verbick drove in the winning run and Sam Houston State overcame four Southern Miss leads to eliminate the Golden Eagles 12-11 in eleven innings Sunday in the NCAA Oxford regional.

Sam Houston State (40-23) now plays top seed Mississippi in tonight's championship game.

Southern Miss led by as much as 7-1 after six innings.

But Sam Houston State began a series of rallies in the seventh and eight innings to tie the score 7-7.

Each time the Golden Eagles took a lead after that, the Bearkats rallied to tie the score until Verbick and Keith Stein drove in two runs in the bottom of the eleventh.

Stein went 5-for-6 with two runs and two RBIs and was one of just two players with more than one hit for Sam Houston.

The nation's top closer, Luke Prihoda (7-3), earned the win despite allowing Southern Miss to take leads in the ninth, 10th and 11th innings.

He gave up three runs on four hits, including what appeared to be the game-winning home run to Number Nine hitter Chris Matesich in the top of the eleventh.

The Golden Eagles' bullpen flopped after starter David Clark began to falter and left the game with a 7-5 lead.

J.R. Ballinger (1-2) earned the loss after giving up two hits and two runs in two-thirds of an inning to end the game.
