A dozen players were selected for this year's Clarion-Ledger All-State baseball team, and almost half of them hail from East Mississippi.
Neshoba Central pitcher David Goforth made the list. He won 10 games on the hill this season, striking out 121 batters with a 1.82 ERA.
4 players from West Lauderdale were also selected. Cody Freeman was chosen at catcher. He batted .450 this year with 14 homers and 57 runs batted in.
Austin Davis is one of the 4 infielders named. He was one of the Knights leading hitters with a batting average of .488. He also drove in 44 runs.
Paxton Pace earned his selection as an infielder, although he made a name for himself on the mound. Pace was a perfect 12-0 with an earned run average of 0.85.
Tyler Vick also earned recognition in the infield. This season, he batted .442 with 15 homeruns and 41 ribbies.
Their skipper wasn't left out in the honors. Jerry Boatner was named Coach of the Year by the Clarion-Ledger. He led the Knights to a 38-2 record, and the school's 11th state baseball title. This is the second time Boatner has won the statewide award. The former was back in 1990. Boatner is the only coach is the award's history to win it twice.
