The Mississippi Association of Coaches will hold its 35th Hall of Fame induction and awards banquet later this week. There will be five new inductees into the Coaches Hall of Fame and most of those have East Mississippi connections.
Van Chancellor heads this year's class of inductees. Chancellor, a Winston County native, served as basketball coach at Noxapater, Horn Lake and Harrison Central. He won an SEC championship at Ole Miss in 1992 and led the WNBA's Houston Comets to four league crowns.
Chancellor also guided the United States to a gold medal in the 2002 Olympics. He was recently named head coach at LSU.
Joining Chancellor in the Class of 2007 will be Mack Fanning, who has been part of state championship softball teams at Newton County and Hickory.
Jack French, won led Forest to three football state crowns, will be inducted along with Mike Justice, who won football state championships at Louisville and Madison Central.
The induction ceremonies will take place Friday night in Jackson.
