Heat Wave Puts Sports in Court

The heat is causing concern for prep football practices.

In northern Mississippi, a chancery court judge banned schools in six counties from allowing students to participate in outdoor activities, like football, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Locally, coaches say they make sure their players have plenty of water and that each player takes a cool down break halfway through practice.

"Main thing is you got to watch them and make sure you got plenty of fluids in them," said West Lauderdale football coach, Stan McCain. "And when one feels like he can't go, you better take that seriously and sit him down in the shade and that's what we're doing."

Late Friday afternoon, the Mississippi Supreme Court vacated the judge's order. Five school districts had requested the ruling be overturned.
