Saturday's heat did not deter over 200 cyclists from hitting the streets of the Queen City Saturday in the 2nd Annual Meridian / Cuba Challenge.
The athletes were split into 5 divisions for the race that runs just over half a mile through downtown Meridian. It's the speed of this race that attracts so many riders. The pro 1, 2, and 3 riders can get up to speeds of 35 miles an hour. Many athletes said they like the change of scenery this venue provides and the fact that the course was downtown.
The event continues Sunday in Cuba, Alabama when the cyclists take part in a steep 26 to 66 mile ride, depending on the riders skill level.
