Damion Fletcher ran for 156 yards and a touchdown as Southern Miss beat Tennessee-Martin 35-13 tonight.
Fletcher scored on a four-yard run in the third quarter to put Southern Miss up 21-6.
The sophomore also eclipsed the 1,500-yard mark in his career during the game.
It was the first meeting between the Golden Eagles and the Skyhawks, who are members of the Football Championship Subdivision, formerly Division I-AA.
Tennessee-Martin is coached by Jason Simpson, a former player for Southern Miss' Jeff Bower, and two of his assistants also coached for Bower in Hattiesburg.
The Golden Eagles fell behind 6-0 early on field goals of 24 and 25 yards by the Skyhawks' Tom Hansen.
But Southern Miss rallied to take a 14-6 lead at halftime, thanks mostly to Fletcher. He had 122 yards rushing in the first half.
A 36-yard run by Fletcher set up Jeremy Young's one-yard quarterback sneak for a score. And Fletcher's 21-yard run led to a 14-yard reverse for a touchdown by Chris Johnson.
