Dedrick Wilson scored two touchdowns and Chad Schroeder rushed for 107 yards and another score to lead Division II Delta State to a 27-15 victory over Jackson State Saturday night.

Delta State, which advanced to the Division II national semifinals last season, took a 6-0 lead early in the first quarter on Schroeder's nine-yard touchdown run.

And the Statesmen led 13-0 at halftime after Ken Cox scored on a one-yard run late in the second quarter.

Delta State's defense, which finished in the top ten in nearly every NCAA statistical category last season, held Jackson State to 84 yards after three quarters and 144 yards in the game.

Wilson scored on runs of three yards and one yard in the fourth quarter.

Jackson State, a member of the Football Championship Subdivision, formerly Division I-AA, avoided the shutout in the fourth quarter when Lavarus Giles returned a kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown and Jimmy Oliver hit Cedric Dixon with a 7-yard touchdown pass.

Delta State finished with 329 total yards of offense.
