Murphy Wins Last Lap Thriller at Whynot

Larry Murphy of Meridian started fourth, and took the
lead on the last lap winning his first
Weekly Racing Series Late Model feature of the
season in a wild night of racing action at Whynot Motorsports Park.

Murphy got the lead on the back straightaway on the final lap after
race leader Lucky Keeton got tangled with a lap car sending him airborn
and nearly flipping before his car came to a rest in turn three.

Murphy took the win over second place finisher Brandon Keeton of
Toomsuba, While Terry Mosley of Gilbertown, AL finished third.

Tim Rutledge of Whynot also picked up his first win of the season
from his fourth starting position winning the UMP Modified feature over
Bill Taylor and Brian Chaney.

"We didn't do anything to the car this week" Rutledge said. "We
spent all week getting my son Kyle's car ready to race. We didn't even
wash it".

With Murphy and Rutledge winning their first race of the season now
makes 37 different feature winners at Whynot this season with five races

Kevin Reeves came from seventh and held off a hard charging Joe
McHan Jr. winning the Heavy Metal Street Stock feature

Joe McHan Jr. worked his way from 12th to finish second and Jody
Walters came from eighth to finish third.

Steve Underwood of Laurel took the early lead and cruised to the
Mini Stock feature over second place Jennifer Shelton and third place
finisher Marty Long.

James" Biscuit" Elfring and Hope Harrington won the Cruiser feature.

Whynot will be back in action this Saturday night with a $1500 to
win Super Late Model race. Also racing Cruisers, Mini Stock, Street
Stock and UMP modifieds. Crate Late
Models will have the night off. Admission is $10 for Adults, kids
