Neil Baggett of Shannon, MS won the Super Late Model
feature on the final turn of the last lap to claim the 25 lap $1500
prize Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park.
Baggett became the 38th different driver to win a feature race at the
Action Track of the South this season.
Pole sitter David Breazeale of Four Corners, MS took the early lead with
Chad Thrash of Collinsville and Neil Baggett in hot pursuit.
By lap three Breazeale found himself in a fierce three wide battle for
the lead with Thrash and Baggett.
As the three drivers continued to battle two and three wide for the
lead, Thrash took over the lead on lap six.
On lap seven the three drivers would once again go three wide for the
lead, with Breazeale regaining the lead on lap nine.
Thrash would regain the lead on lap 10 until heavy pressure by Baggett
at the midway point.
Baggett pulled along side Thrash with nine to go in a heated battle for
the lead until Steve Bryan of Collinsville made it another three wide
battle for the lead.
Thrash took over the lead once again with eight laps remaining with
Baggett in second and Bryan third.
Baggett would muscled his way along side Thrash again with four laps
remaining. The two raced side by side all the way to the finish with
Baggett taking the lead off turn four on the final lap to win one of the
most exciting races in Whynot Motorsports Park history.
Thrash finished second with Bryan finishing third.
"This new GRT Car is Awesome" Baggett said following the race. "This
race track is awesome, I could race anywhere from the top to the
bottom". Baggett also said he had not driven a race car since last
season until tonight.
David Breazeale set fast time over a tough field of Super Late Models in
qualifying with a lap of 13.483.
David Holder of Laurel, MS took home an exciting UMP Modified feature.
Randy King finished second with Ben Stephens third.
Wayne Medders of Morton, MS claimed an always exciting Heavy Metal
Street Stock feature over Kyle Rutledge and Ben Byram who were side by
side at the finish line.
Jennifer Shelton claimed the Mini Stock feature win over Brian Quinn and
"Biscuit" Elfring and Sarah Mercer claimed the cruiser feature.
Whynot will be back in action with Open Wheel Madness this Saturday
night featuring the Cajun Sprinters and a $1000 to win UMP Open Wheel
Modified race. Plus racing in the Cruiser, Mini Stock and Street Stocks.
