Meridian, Miss. -- Wednesday was the first day of play for the eight district teams in the All-Star Baseball Tournament for the State Games of Mississippi. The first game of the day was between District Five, made up of athletes from Lauderdale County to Laurel who dominated District One, made up of Tupelo and West Point area residents. The end score was 6-1.
The highlight of the day was Game 2 played between District Eight from the Coast against District four, with athletes from Winona, Starkville, and Kozciusko area. District Eight crushed District Four 11-0, after winning pitcher Myles Gentry pitched a one-hit shut out. Colton Caver hit two home-runs and Cody Brown and Cort Brinson each hit a home-run.
Delta area team, District Two, was defeated by District Seven, from the Magee and Brookhaven area. District Two was up for the win until Christian Keene hit a Grand Slam, and put District Seven over for the win.
The final game for the day is between District Three from the Cleveland and Shaw area, against District six from the Vicksburg and Jackson area. District 6 took the game with 16-2.
The All-Star Tournament lasts until Sunday. Games begin Friday at 10A.M. starting with District One against District Four. All games are held at Meridian Community College and an all-day pass cost is $5.
