Jays' late eruption carries them to victory
UNDATED (AP) -- Edwin Encarnacion (en-kar-nah-see-OHN') snapped a
1-1 tie with a leadoff home run in the top of the ninth inning and
Toronto went on to beat the Marlins 7-1 in Miami. Colby Rasmus
capped the scoring with a bases-loaded jack.
The Blue Jays sent 11 batters to the plate while breaking it
open in the final frame.
It's Toronto's sixth win in eight games. Miami has lost six
straight and 15 of 17.
The Blue Jays will be hunting a sweep in the interleague series

O's and Moyer part company
BALTIMORE (AP) -- The Orioles have released Jamie Moyer at the
pitcher's request.
The 49-year-old left-hander became the oldest pitcher to win a
major league game earlier this season with Colorado. But the
Rockies released him after going 2-5 and he signed with the Orioles
June 6.
His deal with the Birds contained a stipulation that he make
three starts with Triple-A Norfolk. After that, the team had to
promote him or grant his release.
Moyer went 1-1 with a 1.69 ERA at Norfolk and is now a free

Time for a talk
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma City Thunder coach Scott Brooks
says he hopes to meet with team chairman Clay Bennett and general
manager Sam Presti in "the next couple of days" to discuss a new
Brooks' current deal is set to expire at the end of the month.
The Thunder have improved each of the three seasons Brooks has
been at the head of their bench. They followed a first-round
playoff loss with an appearance in the Western Conference finals
last season and are coming off a five-game loss to Miami in this
year's NBA Finals.

Stuart happy to be home
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- The NHL's Sharks have agreed to terms on
a three-year contract with newly acquired defenseman Brad Stuart,
who could have become a free agent.
San Jose acquired his rights earlier this month from Detroit for
pending free agent Andrew Murray and a conditional seventh-round
draft pick in 2014.
Stuart had made clear that he wanted to be closer to his family,
which still lives in San Jose. He had had six goals and 15 assists
in 81 games last season for the Red Wings.

Duchene gets new deal
DENVER (AP) -- The Colorado Avalanche have locked up one of their
promising young forwards for the next two years.
Matt Duchene (DOO'-shayn) was limited to 58 games last season by
knee and ankle injuries, managing 14 goals and 14 assists.
Duchene was drafted third overall in 2009. He made the All-Star
team in 2010-11 and became the youngest player in franchise history
to lead the squad in scoring.

Playing catch up on the PGA Tour
CROMWELL, Conn. (AP) -- They finished up the weather-interrupted
second round of the Travelers Championship this morning and the
overnight leader was still at the top of the board. Defending
champion Fredrik Jacobson (YAHK'-uhb-sihn) backed up his
opening-round 65 with a 4-under-par 66 yesterday before play was
J.B. Holmes shot up the standings by finishing off an 8-under 62
and began round three tied for second place with Camilo Villegas
(kuh-MIHL'-oh vih-JAY'-guhs) and Will Claxton, one stroke off the

WATERLOO, Ontario (AP) -- Inbee Park brought a one-shot lead over
three golfers into today's third round of this week's LPGA
tournament in Canada.
The South Korean was 9 under par after 36 holes.
American Brittany Lang was part of the trio at minus-8.

Lefty on top
SAINTE-JULIE, Quebec (AP) -- They are playing round two of the
Champions Tour event in Canada today. Russ Cochran began the day
with a two-shot lead after signing for a 6-under-par 66 yesterday.

Open-wheelers under the lights
NEWTON, Iowa (AP) -- IndyCar is racing tonight in the heartland.
Dario Franchitti (DA'-ree-oh fran-KEE'-tee) has the pole for the
Iowa Corn Indy 250. The Indianapolis 500 winner has two victories
in four starts on Iowa's short oval.
Marco Andretti won last year's race.

Vettel back on pole in Spain
VALENCIA, Spain (AP) -- Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel had the
fastest car in Formula One qualifying and will start from the pole
at the European Grand Prix for the third straight year.
The two-time defending Formula One champion has won the race the
past two seasons.
McLaren's Lewis Hamilton will be on the outside of row one.

Roddick ends title drought...Ferrer and Petrova hoist a
trophy...No more blue clay
EASTBOURNE, England (AP) -- Andy Roddick produced a
confidence-boosting 6-3, 6-2 victory over defending champion
Andreas Seppi in the final at Eastbourne to collect his first title
in 16 months. The grass-court event is a warmup for Wimbledon,
which gets under way Monday.
Tamira Paszek (ta-MEER'-uh PASH'-ehk) of Austria fought off five
match points to defeat fifth-seeded Angelique Kerber of Germany
5-7, 6-3, 7-5 in the women's final.

DEN BOSCH, Netherlands (AP) -- Top-seeded David Ferrer
(feh-REHR') beat unseeded Philipp Petzschner 6-3, 6-4 to win the
grass-court tournament in the Netherlands for the second time.
Nadia Petrova (NAH'-dee-uh peh-TROH'-vah) defeated Urszula
Radwanska (rahd-VAHN'-skuh) 6-4, 6-3 to take the women's title at
the Wimbledon warmup. The Championships get under way Monday in

LONDON (AP) -- The blue clay that drew complaints from players at
last month's Madrid Open is going away.
ATP President Brad Drewett says that while the new color, in
place of the traditional red clay, "may have offered better
visibility on television, there were clearly issues with the
quality of the courts in Madrid this year, which were not
The ATP gave the Madrid tournament permission to test out the
blue courts in 2012. After losses, Rafael Nadal (rah-fay-ehl
nah-DAHL') and Novak Djokovic (NOH'-vak JOH'-kuh-vich) said they
didn't like the way the courts played and vowed not to return in

Spain moves on
KIEV, Ukraine (AP) -- Spain's top-ranked soccer team scored a
goal in each half and beat France 2-0 in the quarterfinals of the
European Championships. The reigning World Cup champions will play
10th-ranked Portugal in the semifinals on Wednesday.
Third-ranked Germany awaits the winner of tomorrow's
quarterfinal between No. 6 England and 12th-ranked Italy.
