Former Noxubee County high school boys and girls basketball coach T.J. Billups resigned so he and his family could move to Texas.
Noxubee County Schools Superintendent Dr. Kevin Jones told Newscenter 11 that Billups' wife received a job offer in the Lone Star state that was too good to pass up.
That info should eliminate any rumors he might be taking the old job of his father, Thomas Billups. The elder Billups announced Thursday he is leaving Jackson powerhouse Lanier High School for the head basketball coaching job at Oak Grove in Hattiesburg. Thomas guided Lanier to eight state championship victories in 22 seasons.
The younger Billups announced Monday he would leave the tigers. In eleven seasons, he coached the boys squad to a 260-138 record. Dr. Jones says it will be difficult to replace him, but he hopes to have the position filled in two weeks.
