Clarkdale senior Jordan Lowe is the first student in school history to receive the Lindy Callahan scholar-athlete award. Each spring, eight male and eight female students from across the state are recognized by the Mississippi High School Activities Association for excelling in academics and athletics.

"It is such an honor to be nominated by my school," says Lowe. "But to be recognized on the district level is very exciting, and everybody was just really excited about it."

Jordan has played soccer at Clarkdale for six years. She has three years of Tennis on her record, as well.

"Every year, I write letters of recommendation for Lindy Callahan and we always think, 'Maybe this year,'" says Julie Rawson, Jordan's AP English teacher. "And to know that we finally have a Lindy Callahan award winner... we are just so proud of Jordan this year and everything she's accomplished..."

Lowe scored a 32 on her ACT. She plans on enrolling at Mississippi State University in the Fall. She'll major in Biochemistry with a pre-optometry track .
