East Central Community College’s baseball program is once again offering pitching and hitting clinics for ages 6-12 on the Decatur campus, announced Neal Holliman, Diamond Warrior head coach.
Coach Holliman said the clinics are offered to assist players in preparation for the spring season.
Pitching clinics are scheduled on the four Mondays in February from 6 to 7:15 p.m., with sessions divided between the Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building and South Campus gym.
Holliman said participants “will learn the fundamental steps of a delivery as well as throw a supervised pen each week.” Instruction will also be provided in various areas including arm care, pick moves and grips.
Check-in for the pitching clinic is scheduled at 5:45 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4 at the Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building.
Hitting clinics will be held from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. on four consecutive Thursdays beginning Jan. 31 in the Indoor Practice Facility located in Founders’ Gym. The facility includes two full-length cages, an area for bunting, a pitching machine and several hitting stations.
Holliman said participants will be divided into groups and have the opportunity to participate in various hitting-related exercises, including Tee Drills, Soft Toss, Wiffle Balls and bunting techniques.
Check-in for the hitting clinic is scheduled at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 at Founders’ Gym.
Cost is $75 for the pitching clinic and $100 for hitting instruction. Participants can attend both clinics for $150. Fees include insurance and a camp T-shirt.
Participants should provide baseball helmet and batting gloves (if available), as well as a baseball bat, tennis shoes and jacket or sleeves.
The deadline to register is Friday, Jan. 25, 2013.
“Both camps were very successful last year,” said Holliman, “and we anticipate another great response this year. We want to encourage participants to register early since space is limited.”
Holliman, assistant coaches Justin Brewer and Jack Edmonson, and ECCC players will provide instruction.
