The search is under way for a new men’s head basketball coach at East Central Community College in Decatur.
Maurice Bowie, who has led the Warrior basketball program since the 2006-07 season, submitted his resignation today (March 19) at the March meeting of the College’s Board of Trustees.
In a letter addressed to ECCC President Dr. Billy Stewart and Athletic Director Chris Harris, Bowie stated, “While I have been very satisfied at East Central, unfortunately I have to move on to advance my career. I have enjoyed working with you and appreciate the opportunity I have been given here.”
Dr. Stewart expressed appreciation to Coach Bowie for his efforts in leading the Warrior basketball program.
“We want to thank Coach Bowie for his service to East Central Community College,” said Dr. Stewart. “We wish all the best to him and his family as he pursues new opportunities and challenges.”
Dr. Stewart added, “I am confident that East Central will be successful in attracting a quality coach to lead our men’s basketball program.”
Bowie’s teams compiled an overall 49-116 record during his seven-year tenure.
His best season came in 2010-11 when EC qualified for post-season play after finishing fourth in the MACJC South Division with a 7-5 record.
The Warriors advanced to the MACJC State Tournament and Region 23 Tournament en route to a 13-12 record that year.
Prior to joining the ECCC staff, Bowie served four years as an assistant basketball coach at Itawamba Community College in Fulton. He is also a former graduate assistant and physical education instructor at Alcorn State University in Lorman.
A Ludlow native, Bowie is a former basketball standout at ECCC, earning All-Region 23, first team MACJC All-State and All-Star honors during the 1996-97 season.
Applications for the position will be received through April 12, 2013.
