East Mississippi Community College catcher Abby Roberts has been selected the MACJC Softball Position Player of the Week, as voted on by the sports information directors of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges.
Roberts, a freshman out of Clarkdale High School, batted .636 (7-of-11) a week ago during EMCC’s division doubleheader splits with Holmes and Northwest Mississippi. For the week, she also knocked in three runs with a home run and a double. After going 3-for-5 at the plate last Wednesday at Holmes, Roberts went 4-for-6 against Northwest, including her second home run of the year in game one and a two-run double in the nightcap.
For the season, Roberts leads all Lady Lion regulars with her .420 batting average, including 10 extra-base hits with seven doubles and a triple to go along with her two homers. She also boasts a .605 slugging percentage and .478 on-base percentage on the year.
Currently tied for second place in the MACJC’s North Division softball standings, head coach Kyndall White’s EMCC Lady Lions, 14-14 overall and 7-3 in division play, will play host to division-leading Itawamba Community College Wednesday afternoon in a 3 p.m. doubleheader to be played on the Scooba campus.
