East Central Soccer Blanks MCC 3-0

Ty Miller scored twice and Dalton Smith contributed a goal in helping lead the East Central Community College men’s soccer team to a 3-0 shutout over Meridian Community College Tuesday, Oct. 1 on the MCC campus.

Miller, a sophomore defender from Moss Point, scored in the 19th and 56th minutes of the non-division matchup. Joe McGaskin, a freshman forward and product of Maranatha Christian, was credited with a scoring assist on Miller’s second goal.

Smith, a freshman forward from Florence, scored his goal in the 65th minute. Russ Thompson, a sophomore midfielder/forward from Newton County, was credited with a scoring assist.

The Soccer Warriors are now 6-4-1 under head coach Kenneth Thompson. MCC’s Eagles fell to 3-8.

In women’s action, EC was blanked 3-0.

MCC scorers were Merrick Watkins, Meme Huff and Kristen Morris. Kayla Phillips was credited with a scoring assist on Huff’s goal.

The Lady Warriors are 4-7 under first-year head coach Gray Massey. The Lady Eagles improved to 9-2.

Next up for EC squads are non-division matches at MS Gulf Coast Community College scheduled Friday, October 4. Game times are 5 and 7 p.m. on the Perkinston campus.
