In the top of the ninth inning, first-baseman Wes Rea hit an RBI single to right field, giving State a 4-3 lead. In the same inning, Demarcus Henderson connected to the opposite side of the field to exted the lead to 5-3. It was Henderson's third RBI on the night.
Relief pitcher Myles Gentry was phenomenal. The freshman gave up three hits and no runs while striking out 8 batters in the game's final 5.2 innings.
Mississippi State will face Texas A&M in Thursday night's late game. The start time has not yet been announced.
