Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen promoted linebackers coach Geoff Collins to Bulldog defensive coordinator.
The Clarion-Ledger's Brandon Marcello reports Mullen originally wanted to try something different with his defense, which lead to his making Collins defensive coordinator for State's 34-20 Gator Bowl loss to Northwestern on Tuesday.
While Collins' move turned into a full-time promotion, Marcello also reports former defensive coordinator Chris Wilson will leave Starkville to become the defensive line coach at the University of Georgia. Collins' takeover will be welcomed as State's defense were largely responsible for going 1-5 in the Dogs' final six games.
In MSU' five losses, their defense gave up 38 points per game.
