Hundreds Flock to Meridian for Sunfish Triathlon

The 27th annual Sunfish Triathlon kicked off at 7:00 a.m. Saturday morning when an estimated 400 competitors dove into the water for a 1/3 mile swim, a 17-mile bike ride and a 5-K run.

Ben Hall, a 22-year-old from Ruston, LA won first place in the male, over-all division with a time of 1:08:02. He was followed by James Bales of Biloxi and Bain Foote of Madison.

Hattiesburg-native Denise Joplin was the first female to finish. She crossed the finish line at 1:19:57.

Meridian native Odis Howze was the race's oldest finisher at age 74.
