Nine young women signed with East Central Community College Sunday afternoon. The signing marks the first recruiting class from second-year Head Coach Gray Massey.

The nine recruits represent seven high schools throughout Mississippi, as far north as Olive Branch and as far south as Gulfport.

Newton County senior Mikayla May said she's played multiple positions throughout her time with the Cougars but expects to play defender for coach Massey.

"I'm really excited. He came to a bunch of our summer practices, and he got to watch us, and he's talked to me a lot," said May. "And we keep in contact with him, so he's a really friendly guy. I love it."

"It's a good class. Tons of speed. Tons of talent. Tons of ability," said Massey.

In eight years at Florence High School, Massey won three State Championships (two with girls, one with boys) before taking the Head Coaching job at ECCC. He tied the school record of six wins as his team finished 6-10-1 in his first season in Decatur.
