Due to expected heavy rains Thursday and Friday in South Mississippi, this week’s MACJC State Softball Tournament has been pushed back two days to Saturday and Sunday (May 4-5) in Perkinston. Game times for the weekend event, hosted by Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, will remain the same.

The quarterfinal-round EMCC-ECCC pairing is set to begin at 4 p.m. at Ross-Smith Field on the MGCCC campus.
Saturday’s other quarterfinal-round tournament action will pit No. 2 South seed and eighth-ranked Jones County (36-6, 19-5) against No. 3 North seed Holmes (19-25, 15-9) at noon, followed by MACJC North champion Itawamba (31-12-1, 18-6) versus No. 4 South entry Pearl River (24-20, 13-11) at 2 p.m. The opening day’s tournament activity will conclude with MACJC South champion and seventh-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast (31-8, 20-4) playing host to No. 4 North seed Northeast Mississippi (23-14-1, 15-9) in a scheduled 6 p.m. contest.
Sunday’s semifinals are slated for noon and 2 p.m., with the subsequent championship contest on tap for a 5 p.m. start time.
