Meridian Community College freshman Meme Huff has earned a spot on the Mississippi State women soccer team and will join the bulldogs in the Spring.
MCC Women's Soccer Coach Mike Smith says MSU coaches came to the Eagles' final game of the season against Pearl River Community College and reached out to the Huff family that day.
As a freshman at MCC, Huff scored 29 goals, received more votes for the All-Region 23 team than any other player and has been nominated to be a junior college All-American.
"Coach Mike contacted [Mississippi State] coach Gordon to come watch one of our soccer games. After that my dad talked to coach Gordon and then I emailed [him] and went to one of their games," said Huff. "And I talked to him after the game and he said that... that this is a unique opportunity. That his roster number was low. I don't know! It all fell into place."
Meme was one of the twelve WTOK All-Scholastic selections in Spring 2013. She set a Meridian High School single season record, scoring 24 goals in 2012.
She broke her own record as senior, scoring 25.
Huff will be the first MCC women soccer player to reach the southeastern conference.
