The Meridian Community College men’s basketball team held a special signing ceremony in the Graham Gymnasium to recognize three players that signed national letters of intent to continue their basketball careers at the next level.
Corey Brister (William Carey), Kenny Davis (Belhaven), and Will Sheriff (Belhaven) each signed the dotted line Wednesday afternoon in front of a large crowd of supporters at the Graham Gymnasium.
Brister will continue his playing at William Carey University in Hattiesburg, MS and was one the leading scorers this past season for the Eagles. Brister is a native of Byram, MS and led MCC in scoring by averaging 12 points per contest. Brister shot nearly 39 percent from the floor and 37 percent from beyond the three-point line for the Eagles who finished the season with a 6-16 record after finishing the previous season with only one victory. Brister was also selected to the South Team of the MACJC All-Star Game which was played last month in Decatur. Brister will look to add some pop to the lineup for a William Carey squad that finished 28-3 overall this past season and lost in the second round of the NAIA National Championship Tournament. The Crusaders captured the Southern States Athletic Conference regular season title by finishing a perfect 18-0 and also won the conference tournament crown.
Davis and Sherriff will also be playing close to home next season after signing with Belhaven College in the Jackson, MS area. Davis and Sherriff are both from the Jackson metro area and will look to boast the Blazer lineup in 2014-2015. Belhaven also competes in the Southern States Athletic Conference and the Blazers finished the 2013-2014 campaign with an 18-15 record. Belhaven lost in the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament after finishing in third place in the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament.
Davis averaged nine points per contest for the Eagles this past season and Sheriff averaged seven points per game for MCC head coach Cedric Drake.
