The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles have enjoyed a great start to the 2013 season and that success has been recognized on the national stage. The Lady Eagles have been ranked 20th in the most recent NJCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Poll that was released Wednesday.
MCC (7-2, 3-2) started the season by winning its first seven games and have hit a small bump in the road recently by losing its last two games. The Lady Eagles have been led by the superb play of MeMe Huff and Kayla Phillips through the first nine games. Huff, a former Meridian High star, leads the Lady Eagles in goals with 19. Huff is currently ranked in the top five in the nation in goals scored for MCC this season.
Phillips, a former Clarkdale star, leads the Lady Eagles in assists with 12 and is ranked second in the NJCAA in that category.
MCC will return to action this Friday at home against Itawamba Community College. The women will take to the field at 2 p.m. and the men will follow at 4 p.m.
