Senior outfielder Demarcus Henderson ripped the game-winning single to center field, as junior catcher Zack Randolph sprinted to third and eventually scored on a fielding error by the SEMO center fielder.
The Bulldogs improved to 18-9 on the year, while the Redhawks fell to 14-10. All-American right-hander Jonathan Holder (2-1) earned the win for the Maroon and White with two innings of scoreless relief.
MSU struck the first blow in the second inning when Brett Pirtle led off with a double down the left field line. After a Seth Heck sacrifice bunt, Pirtle crossed home on an RBI groundout to second by Derrick Armstrong.
The Redhawks answered in the fifth inning thanks to a two-out, two-RBI single by Derek Gibson which gave Southeast Missouri a 2-1 lead.
After two scoreless relief innings by Brandon Woodruff, the Bulldogs broke through in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at two. Three singles loaded the bases for the Maroon and White, before Jake Vickerson drove a one-out pitch to center field that was deep enough to score Randolph for the tying run on a sacrifice fly.
Randolph scored the game-winning run in the ninth on the Henderson single and the fielding error in center.
Henderson finished the game 2-for-3, while Randolph went 2-for-4. Vickerson, Pirtle, Armstrong and Collins also added base hits for MSU.
The Bulldogs return to action on Friday against SEC West rival Arkansas. The series is set for game times of 6:30 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
