STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Mississippi State's revamped offense did everything asked of it during last weekend's lopsided victory over Jackson State.
But the degree of difficulty -- along with the stakes -- increase exponentially on Saturday when the Bulldogs (1-0) host Auburn (0-1) at Davis Wade Stadium.
The Auburn-Mississippi State game has become crucial for both teams for many reasons -- most notably its early spot on the schedule.
The Bulldogs have been on the wrong end of the scoreboard the past two seasons, losing 17-14 in Starkville in 2010 and 41-34 at Auburn in 2011.
Mississippi State believes it has the talent to finally get past the Tigers and notch a signature Southeastern Conference victory. The Bulldogs have a 0-12 record against Auburn, Arkansas, LSU and Alabama during Mullen's four-year tenure.
