Former Meridan High School and current Mississippi State Quarterback Tyler Russell has undergone surgery on his throwing shoulder.

CSS reporter Emily Gagnon told Newscenter 11 well-know physician Dr. James Andrews performed surgery on a torn Labrum in Russell's right shoulder in Pencacola, Florida.

The 5th-year senior initially suffered the injury in Mississippi State's November loss to Alabama, but worsened it the following week against Arkansas. Russell will rehab that shoulder before he prepares for April's NFL Draft.

Dr. Andrews has performed surgery on Brett Favre, Albert Pujols and Drew Brees among a host of other professional athletes.
