As far as weeks go, it couldn’t have gotten much better for Craig Sword, who Monday was named the Co-SEC Player of the Week.
The Mississippi State sophomore guard was instrumental in his team posting wins against Jackson and Loyola as he scored 12 and 24 points respectively. What was key, though, was the Montgomery, Ala., native scoring what proved to be the game-winning points in both games.
On the year, he leads the Bulldogs with a 12.7 scoring clip.
“This is a well deserved honor for Chicken,” said MSU coach Rick Ray, whose 5-1 team returns to action at 6 p.m. Thursday against TCU in a game televised by ESPNU. “He has made crucial, clutch plays in two straight, tightly contested games, in the waning minutes that led to victories for us.”
Last year, he was tabbed the SEC Freshman of the Week twice. This week, he shares the honor with Florida’s Casey Prather.
