Mississippi State’s Craig Sword, a 6-foot-3, 189-pound freshman guard from Montgomery, Ala., was named SEC Freshman of the Week after averaging 17 points, 3.5 rebounds and two steals in wins over South Carolina and at Georgia. He led the Bulldogs to a win in their SEC opener with a career-best 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting against South Carolina. His two free throws with 46 seconds left broke a 52-all tie, and then he answered on the defensive end with a steal and a dunk for a 56-52 advantage. In his first SEC road game, Sword registered 16 points, four rebounds and two steals at Georgia.
