Posted: Wed 10:08 PM, Sep 12, 2012

There is good news for bulldog fans as tight end Marcus Green and corner back Jonathan Banks received national recognition this week.

Green was named the John Mackey tight end of the week for his 54 yard, 2 touchdown performance in State's victory over Auburn. The Scooba native was not even listed in the preseason watch list for the Mackey award, which goes to the nation's top tight end, and he is only one of four FBS tight-ends with three touchdown catches this season.

Meanwhile, State's All-American corner back Jonathan banks was named Jim Thorpe defensive back of the week. Banks intercepted each of the first two passes thrown his way against Auburn. As if one award weren't enough, Banks was named to the Paul Hourning award weekly honor roll and named college-sports-madness-dot-com's defensive player of the week and college-football-performance-dot-com's all-purpose performer of the week. Banks is tied for first nationally with 14 career interceptions.
