Massive Golden Eagle Statue Donated to USM

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) -- The University of Southern Mississippi is preparing a site to house a 22-foot-tall golden eagle statue donated by a Texas businessman.

WDAM reports ( ) the statue will be placed in an area next to the All-American Rose Garden on the Hattiesburg campus.

The piece was donated by Southern Mississippi graduate Chuck Scianna. It is expected to be dedicated in October.

The golden eagle is the mascot of the university's athletic teams.
