MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to lead the Tigers to a 2-1 Conference USA victory over Southern Miss here Sunday afternoon at FedExPark.

The Golden Eagles (21-18 overall, 10-5 C-USA) saw a 10-game winning streak snapped in the contest but Southern Miss still holds first place in the league standings and won its first series at Memphis since 2005.

The visitors looked to sweep the Tigers by scoring a run in the second. Blake Brown delivered a leadoff bunt to third which was overthrown and Brown ended up at second base. After another bunt single by Isaac Rodriguez, Jared Bales hit into a double play which scored Brown on the play.

The Tigers, though, took the lead for good in the pivotal seventh.

Drew Griffin, who had two of the Tigers' six hits, began the frame with a single. After a sacrifice and a ground that got Grifin to third, USM went to its bullpen for Cody Livingston to face the left-handed hitter. Livingston walked the only batter he faced before Jay Myrick was summoned into the game.

Myrick gave up a bloop single to reserve outfielder Ford Wilson which drove in Griffin and Jake Little followed with a game-winning RBI double.

USM starter Conor Fisk allowed just a run on three hits over 6 2/3 innings with two walks and three strikeouts for a no decision, while Livingston was tagged for the loss and fell to 0-5.

Alex Gunn went 7 2/3 innings for Memphis (25-16, 8-7) and surrendered an unearned run on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts to get the win and improve to 3-2. Heith Hatfield threw the final 1/3 innings to garner his second save.

Southern Miss returns to action Wednesday, when they play host to Alabama at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
