It's been five months since the Meridian high school basketball team ended their season with a loss to Gulfport, but the Wildcats haven't stopped playing.
Assistant coach Tony Tadlock says every Thursday throughout the summer, the wildcats competed in the Jackson Metro summer league.
In addition to playing three games during each Thursday trip, Meridian also also won the team camp at Mississippi College in Clinton. As a reward for their hard work, the team celebrated at the home of Meridian teacher Edward Abdella.
In a party that included food, family and some swimming, the team also got a visit from Meridian Mayor Percy Bland.
"The community expects big things out of the student-athletes and coaches," says Bland. "We just want them to have a great year and go back to the big house and take it all if they can.
"It starts with what they do in the classroom... and it starts with having that winning attitude."
