Four members of the Meridian High School girls' basketball team signed to play basketball at the next level Wednesday on the school's campus.
Kadaisha Brown, Amber Crowell and Tyquisha Naylor will attend Hinds Community College next season while Kristen smith signed with Jones County Junior College. All four were part of a lady Wildcat squad that finished 25-7 and reached the 6A South State final.
"It's always a joy to go and watch kids that continue their education freely through basketball," said Meridian Head Coach Patricia Wilson.
Also on Wednesday, two members off the Meridian boys team made their destination for next year final. J'Vaughnte Harris will play for East Mississippi Community College while Johntavius Thomas is headed to Hinds.
Head Boys Basketball Coach Randy Bolden spoke with Newscenter 11 at the ceremony.
"This is one of the toughest moments. You develop that relationship with these young men. It's a bittersweet moment. You're happy that they're moving onto bigger and better things but on the flip side of that you hate to see them go," said Bolden. "They're like my sons, and I'm just excited for them and excited for our program and excited for the community that these guys get to further their education."
Both Bolden and Wilson said they expect a few more seniors to sign with schools in the upcoming weeks.
