STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Mississippi State has two good quarterbacks and one shaky defense heading into this Saturday's game with Bowling Green. The Bulldogs looked good offensively with Tyler Russell and Dak Prescott sharing time under center, but they're trying to correct some defensive problems that allowed LSU to score eight touchdowns in Saturday's 59-26 loss.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- New Orleans and Indianapolis, the sites of the past two Super Bowls, and Minneapolis are the three finalists to host the NFL championship game in 2018. Those three cities have been selected from a pool of six at the owners' meetings Tuesday.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- LSU senior forward Theresa Plaisance is one of 25 players nationally who were named to the preseason watch list for the Wade Trophy. It's presented annually to the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Year.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Kevin Marsh won two matches, including a second-round win over defending champion Nathan Smith, on Tuesday to advance to the quarterfinal round at the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship. The event was held at the par-71, 7,173-yard Country Club of Birmingham's West Course. Marsh, the 2005 U.S. Mid-Amateur titlist, defeated Smith, a four-time winner of this championship, 2 and 1.
