ITTA BENA, Miss. (AP) -- Mississippi Valley State University has announced a $5.5 million renovation at its football stadium including an East Grandstand.
MVSU President Donna H. Oliver said Friday that the renovations should be completed in time for their 2011 home opener against Alabama State on Sept. 3.
Oliver says the project is being funded with money from the state. She says construction should begin April 4.
The East Grandstand will have 5,000 seats. A concourse under the grandstand will include restrooms, a first aid room, vendor stalls, and space for food/merchandise kiosks.
There will be a club-level deck atop the grandstand.
Oliver says the school hopes to raise another $2 million from private donors for additional work at the stadium to include a new scoreboard, improved lighting and ramps.

As a taxpayer and a Christian, I honestly have a problem with taxpayer funds being used to support a school whose mascot is a devil (Satan).

If Ole Miss had to change their mascot so that certain groups would be offended, then why are we sitting around letting this State funded university retain such an offensive mascot?
