The Jackson-based Clarion-Ledger announced its 2013 all-state baseball teams and a young man from East Missisippi cracked the line-up.
Newton County's Will Brand was selected for second team all-state as an in-fielder, but he did most of his damage from the pitcher's mound. His 12-1 record and 101 strike-outs guided the Cougars to the 4A state championship where they finished runner-up to Lewisburg.
brand's ERA was an astounding .97. He was also voted 4A player of the year by the Mississippi Association of Coaches.
