Ray Perkins has resigned as head football coach at Jones County Junior College.

The university, in a news release Monday, said Perkins' resignation is effective Dec. 31.

In two years as head coach of the Bobcats, Perkins guided them to a 15-5 record.

In 2013, Perkins was named the MACJC Coach of the Year, leading JCJC to its first MACJC South Division title since 2001 and its first appearance in the MACJC championship game since 2007. JCJC finished at 9-2 and were ranked No. 8 in the final NJCAA poll.

Dr. Jesse Smith, JCJC's president, said the Board of Trustees would meet after the holiday break to form a plan on hiring a new coach.

Perkins is unsure about his future plans, but says he doesn't plan to retire.
