Rebel Walk-On, Former East Central Football Player Dies in Car Crash

Our rebel family and team are so saddened at the loss of one of our teammates, park stevens. May god be with his family and our team" park stevens was 20 years old

Ole Miss walk-on and former East Central Community College football player Park Stevens died in a car accident Wednesday.

Reports from the Clarion-Ledger and WTVA indicate Stevens' truck ran into the back of a semi that was trying to cross the four-lane Highway 45 near Egypt, MS.

Stevens was originially from Columbus, MS where he graduated from New Hope High School in 2011.

He was the starting right guard for East Central in 2012.

WTOK received a statement from former Warrior head coach Brian Anderson about his former player.

"There is now a void in our hearts. Park has left all too soon. We didn't just recruit players at East Central... we brought in people and their families. "My heart is broken not only for Park's teammates and coaches, but especially his family. As a player, Park was the type to go the extra mile. He did not settle for good enough. He always wanted to be better... Do more than what was expected. When circumstances got hard, it's what brought the best out in him as a player, especially in the weight room and off-season conditioning. I have to say thay my fondest recollections of park will always be the interaction with him off the field, particularly in Scott Hall. Park had an uncanny nack for making the most out of any situation. His attitude was always one of the glass is half full. No matter the place or the sitation, he was giong to keep everyone around him positive, upbeat and usually laughing."

The social media web site Twitter was full of posts about the death of 6'6" 251 lb offensive lineman.

Ole Miss Head Coach Hugh Freeze wrote, "Our rebel family and team are so saddened at the loss of one of our teammates, Park Stevens. May God be with his family and our team"

Stevens was 20 years old.
