MERIDIAN, MS —The State Games of Mississippi presents the coolest 5K run Saturday, October 20, at Bonita Lakes as zombies chase humans in the annual Boo Run.“This is our second Boo Run,” said Director of Marketing Leslie Lee, “and what makes this one of the most exciting 5K runs is the outrageous chase by zombies.”
In the Boo Run, zombies chase flagged humans, who have a 90-second head start. If a runner loses a flag, then they become a zombie. Racers are encouraged to dress for the part, and prizes are given for best costume.Even the kids get into the novelty of the Boo Run with the Mini Boo 1M. Children under 12 can run in the Mini Boo dressed in Halloween costumes, with more prizes for the best costume.
In the 5K Boo Run, the top three racers in each age category receive medals. Registration for the Oct. 20 event is $25 for the 5K and $8 for the Mini Boo. The Mini Boo begins at 9 a.m. and the Boo Run 5K begins at 9:30 a.m. at Bonita Lakes.
The State Games of Mississippi, a statewide amateur sportsfest modeled after the Olympics. The majority of State Games events are in June, with offerings in more than 30 sports and a spectacular opening ceremonies set for June 14, 2013.The State Games keeps is able to keep entry fees low for the Boo Run primarily through the generous donations of sponsors, including Boo Run sponsor Rush Sports Medicine Team.
