Alex George may have coached the West Lauderdale girls to a soccer state runner-up, but he'll be coaching about half of the boys' team next fall.
Six members of the boys soccer team that also reached the state finals signed to play next fall with Meridian Community College. Lead by head coach Brian Miley, Tyler Germany, Chris Mallette, Tyler Green, Quinton Smith, Lyle Daughtery and Caleb Carpenter the Knights had one of the best seasons in school history this past season, winning a district and 4A south tate championship before falling in the state title game on Saturday.
"The last time we were together was really tough. I think it was more that we were saying goodbye to each other," said Miley. "We've been together every day for five years, on and off so it was a real bittersweet moment. Just to know these guys will be at MCC next year, I'm gonna buy season tickets. Just to know that these kids, guys are going to be playing around here at home, at our hometown community college. That's not only big for the school but for the whole community if you ask me."
Meanwhile, West Lauderdale keeper Cody Anderson signed with Jones County Junior College. Anderson will head to Ellisville, Mississippi in the fall where he'll be making saves for coach Oleg Baleyev.
