Classmates, teammates and family of Mason Irby gathered in the Southeast Lauderdale library Thursday as the senior baseball player signed with Jones County Junior College.
He had offers from East Mississippi, East Central and Meridian Community College, but, ultimately, chose the Bobcats. He batted over .340 during his junior season, helping the Tigers reach the second round of the 3A playoffs.
Irby was just grateful for the celebration.
"I can't thank God enough for the abilities and the blessings he's given me with family and the people that have pushed me to get to this point," said Irby. "It's a relief... when the season gets here, I can just concentrate on the team."
The senior says he believes Southeast has the rotation to get back to the State Championship. The Tigers won won it all in 2012.
