Hundreds of men and women of all ages dove into the water, mounted their bicycles and pounded the pavement for the annual Sunfish Triathlon at Bonita Lakes Park in Meridian.

A crowd of 386 racers descended upon the Queen City from Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and Louisiana for a 1/3 mile swim, a 17-mile bike ride and a 3.2-mile run. The Meridian Athletic Association organizes the event, but receives help from the Bonita Running Club, the Okatibee Running Club and Divas on the Run.

There are 14 age groups in both male and female divisions, but 43-year-old Caroline Smith of Mandeville, LA was the number one overall finisher among women with a time of 1:17:01. John Mooney, a 21-year-old from Brookhaven, MS, was number one among men at 1:09:34.
