Following a season in which West Alabama won the Gulf South Conference championship, hopes were high for 2013.
That excitement reached a new level on October 10th when the Tigers defeated No. 1 Valdosta State, locking up the biggest win in program history.
Quarterback Kyle Caldwell got elite recognition, and Head Coach Will Hall became one of the nation's most recognizable coaches.
However, everything changed for UWA.
First, an overtime loss to rival North Alabama all but assured the Tigers would not make the playoffs despite sharing a piece of their second consecutive GSC Championship. Then coach Hall shocked Livingston, leaving UWA to take the same job at West Georgia, one of the Tigers' annual conference opponents. The university hired former UWA quarterback Brett Gilliland to replace Hall in December.
