Ray Guy, the Southern Miss legend who is widely considered the greatest punter of all time, was honored Tuesday by both the Mississippi House of Representatives and Senate at the State Capitol in Jackson.
Guy was presented with a Senate Resolution in light of his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and was given the opportunity to speak to legislators about being the first punter to accomplish that feat.
Guy holds the Raiders' record for career punts and led the NFL in gross punt average for three seasons.
Although the national award for college football's top punter is named after him, many don't know Guy also played defensive back for Southern Miss and is still tied for the single season school record of eight interceptions.
