West Alabama softball has announced a record breaking amount of money raised in its annual Friends of Jaclyn weekend this season. The Tigers raised $1,000 to donate to the FOJ Foundation.

The foundation is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children batting pediatric brain tumors. It was inspired by Jaclyn Murphy who was diagnosed with a medulloblastoma, a malignant brain tumor, in March 2004 when she was nine-years-old.

"Without teams like UWA Softball we would not be able to facilitate Jaclyn's dream of having every child with a brain tumor adopted to a team," said FOJ Adoption Support and Outreach Coordinator Erin Perkins.

"UWA and our other teams prove to us on a daily basis that they're committed not only to a season, but a lifetime of love, support and friendship. The maturity level of these college athletes is unprecedented--in addition to supporting their adoptee Ella, they also support The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation which allows us to continue to improve the quality of life for all children suffering from pediatric brain tumors and to spread awareness about this disease."

The UWA softball team adopted Ella Norris as an honorary member of the team in March 2010, in support of the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation.

FOJ's slogan is "Live in the Moment! Play in the Moment!" FOJ has completed 382 adoptions in 25 different male and female sports at the college and junior college level. Ella was the second child paired in the state of Alabama at the time and is a true inspiration to the Tiger family.

"Our ball club has gained so much from the partnership as well as from our adoptee Ella," said Atkinson. "We are really excited to be able to have success with our FOJ weekend. The organization is outstanding and our team has been blessed and honored to be a part of the FOJ family."

Jaclyn's wish is for every child with a brain tumor to be able to be adopted onto a team of their own and get the love, support and friendship from their own teammates. For more information, please visit friendsofjaclyn.org/.
